Description

Fiber optic sensors use non-contact optical measurement to determine distance, position, and motion with high precision. These sensors are based on the principle of reflection. A fiber optic cable transmits light to a target surface and measures the intensity of the reflected light to calculate distance or displacement with high precision.

Because the measuring head itself contains no electronics, these sensors are ideally suited for extreme conditions such as high temperatures, electromagnetic fields, vacuum applications, and high-radiation environments. The electronics are located away from the object being measured, ensuring maximum robustness and installation flexibility.

Fiber optic sensors measure down to micrometer level and offer fast response, high reproducibility, and a long service life. They are available in various configurations, including models with single or multiple fiber channels and with options for dynamic measurements of vibration or rapidly changing positions.

Fiber optic sensors are used worldwide in demanding environments where traditional measurement systems fall short. Thanks to the non-contact measurement principle and robust fiber optic technology, they offer a reliable solution for accurate distance and motion measurements, even under extreme conditions.

Applications include drive technology and rotor dynamics (measuring shaft displacement, alignment, and vibration in rotating machinery such as turbines, pumps, and motors) and industrial automation (feedback systems for precise motion control in assembly lines or inspection machines).

Thanks to the ability to remotely install the electronics, these sensors function seamlessly in environments where heat, vibration, or electromagnetic interference would disrupt the operation of conventional sensors.
